Here Comes Everybody

Social networks allow people all around the world to communicate with each other. Its also an easy way to keep up with friends and family. Some people use social networks for work and using new plans or searching for new tools to use. I use Facebook and just started using Google+. Having a Driod cell phone, Google + is simple to work on my phone. After watching the video, I don't think Gin is the reason why we use social networks, like people did in the industrial revolution. But I do agree that social media is supported because people have leisure time. I use Facebook, not because I need too but because I have time to look on it. Its on my phone, so when I am bored I can just look at it.

Social media has its positives and it negatives on education. Social media allows educators to connect with each other. If one science teacher has an awesome lesson on how to teach the nervous system, and a new teacher didn't know how to do it. The new teacher can look on a biology Facebook webpage and take the plan of the page. On the other hand, I think social media can affect what students learn, I think it allows students to be easy to connect with teachers without them knowing. But I think the biggest impact is students are always on a computer. Students use the internet for everything, which don't get me wrong, it so easy to use. But i think students become robots only using computer, looking at a monitor, or an i pad, or the i phone. Everyone of these machines allow are students to be isolated and to now communicate with each other.

PLCs and teacher collaboration

Profession learning communities (PLC) enable teachers and administrators to work together to improve students learning. Examples are setting goals by using meetings, classroom visits, and cooperative planning. The barrier between teachers themselves becomes smaller, new teachers that are lost on a subject can ask veteran teachers for assistance.  New teachers can become stressed, not connected, or lost, in a new school. The environment can be difficult to cope with, because the demands of your job are on your students performance. New teachers need help on how to run things, how to push students to new levels, or how to teach a subject matter that is tough. I recently have observed 4 science classrooms and many of the teachers learn more things about the subject of biology as they teach. So new teachers won't know everything, therefore, veteran teachers need to assist the younger teachers. Teachers can communicate through email, the lunch room, observing a veteran classroom or using their lessons.
I always use technology to connect with liked peers. Its so simple to use another teachers lesson plan, or power point presentations. Their are websites that teachers think you, as a new teachers, should visit and steal ideas. I do think, the professional website is going to help me when I move into the field more and the websites i use. Email are the largest technology tool I have used. When I have an issue at school with my athletic director ( AD) or an assistant principal (AP), they email me. Its so simple, so I have used technology to communicate with my peers and veteran teachers.

Copyright in the Future

After watching, Creative commons: What every Educator needs to know,    I recognized that copyrighting happens. Do I think its good, of course not, but did I think it happen so often, not at all! The problem with copyright and how it affects our students of today, its easy to do. The short film talks about a video game, for example Halo, being a difficult game and people result to cheat codes to pass a game. This is teaching our students to constantly result in looking for a fast way out and allowing our students of the future to think, there is nothing wrong with the easy route. Classrooms and video games are very alike in comparison to finding short cuts to get work done. Educator need to find ways to make students think and I don't find a book find the right answer, not using Google.

So in the classroom, I think this routine is going to grow and not improve until educator find a different route to help kids besides the computer. The classroom may need to be a place where a large portion of work needs to be done, and less lecture. Reason, that students will have to find answers away from computers and using sole themselves or the instructor.

Lastly, Social network is a great way to meet people, find things about your old friends, and socialize. But it also can lead to discussion on how to pass and exam. Like the video stated, sharing vs. cheating, whats the difference? Is it okay? Where is the line between them? That a question that depends on the person and the content, in my point of view. I think, students that assist their peers by giving clues or background knowledge of the subject matter is good learning but giving another student a clear answers is cheating. Copyright is something that is not going to go away. Educator need to find a common language or guideline that promotes students to think logically without using cheat sheets. Maybe we can start by no making them for video games, who wouldn't want to play Call of Duty 4, straight up!

CLRN

CLRN, California Learning Resources Network, is a website with learning resources for teachers in their content area.  Examples of resources are online classes, home school tutorials, in class video, and animated  lessons. Some look beneficial to use in a classroom and some look boring, not interactive, and not something I would use in my classroom.

Teaching is a profession which takes dedication, time, and focus in different content areas. I want to teach high school biology, which is usually 9-10 graders. I found three resources and they are provide interactions, background knowledge, and pertain to biology. First, benchmark media which is a internet resource that provides concept or school development, practice, assessment in science. The resource that caught my eye, it works in a lab and in a classroom. I took biology in high school and college, I found that learning in a different atmosphere that is not, your standard classroom, is a great way to learn. Second, interactive tutorials, a program that works of any computer home or school. As a teacher using tutorials in my class, can allow students background knowledge of the subject. If students missed a topic in class because they were absent, for example, they can review the tutorial on a subject matter. The topic used of the resource network was animal, bacterial, and plant cells. These cell have organelles or components in them that needed to be listed. Computers can make it graphic and use animation, which will make the lesson better to read. Third, internet textbook, this resource gives background knowledge, concepts and skills, history, and tools used in life science. I would use this in the classroom because it gives a background knowledge which gives students something to look forward to, when the lesson begins. Internet notebooks have pros and cons, using in a classroom will allow students to review them, but students can fall behind by not doing the work. As a teacher, reviewing information that is done outside of class may be difficult. So, for background knowledge i would use it in my classroom, but as a base of learning, I think that should come from the teacher.

Goals for the Future

As a 26 year old, my goals are changing every year as I get older. Now that I have a BA degree focusing on become a teacher is my number one responsibly. First, I would like to earning a science teaching position at a high school and being the head of the aquatic program. Second, I would like to be the head of my science department at my high school. I can show my professional leadership in the high school to students like myself. Third, becoming a teacher that is well-organized in using the internet for resources for my students. Fourth, I would like to pay my student loans off in 10 or less years. Its a strong wish but I think its possible. We all know about student loans because we go to La Verne. Fifth, working as a teacher I can use the luxury of having summers of work. I can travel, going to the river, Europe, China, and anywhere else that is not in the U.S. Last but not least, everyone will want to retire and not work.

The World is Flat

My thoughts on Friedman's global outlook is that the world is connected by the internet which everyone can use. No matter the country, the city, or what service you use. And if you aren't up to date on how to use the internet, you will are going be left behind. An example is Friedman talking about his flight experience with Southwest. He wanted to sit in the front of the plane, which meant you needed an A lettered ticket. Unfortunately he was given a B lettered ticket, not because he was late but because he didn't print his ticket off the internet at 12:01am. Everyone has the option to print their ticket off the internet but if you don't know that its possible, your going to have a B ticket. "You are your own travel agent", he says. So you have to updated on what is new in technology.
He talks about education being the future which I think is right. If the whole world is on the same page with technology and products are getting shipped anywhere across the world. Whether its Walmart over sees market or UPS fixing everything. We as people need to know how this works.

And as people who want to be educators we need to teach this too our young adults. The student that design Mozilla with a person thousands of miles away in a different country is just remarkable. But that time is here, normal people can, make there own blogs, podcast, and video about what ever they want. Education is a powerful tool but only good when it is used to improve our world. Our students and younger people need to know how they can use the internet and how it works with everything around to improve there knowledge.

Blog #1

Having the experience coaching at a high school for 6 years is what encouraged me to become a teacher. My reasons for becoming a teacher, some are emotional, so are pride, and some are just the passion for kids I have. Coaching at a high school allowed me give kids my knowledge and they could use it in the everyday life. Students that learn from you give me a feeling of satisfaction, that I did something to improve that students' life. Without me they would know how to swim or shoot right, because I coach high school water polo. Watching a video, where students, a lot like myself are paying so much for school. That find themselves struggling because the education given to them doesn't help them. Fitting into this shift and vision is good for someone like me to be involved in because I was reluctant enough to be on both sides. The side that lived without so much technology and the side that does. I do go to ULV so I do know a thing or two about student loans and debt. Students that want to go to an expensive school, which is basically every school, I can give them different points of view. Of how to get around student loans, scholarships, grants, and working through school. So personally I think I am an asset to students in high school that are going to college, because I care, I want to succeed better than I did, and that what teachers are supposed to do.
Looking at A Vision of Students Today,  video, I am upset at how much we put students through for nothing. I personally don't remember half the stuff I studied as a freshman in college. Its not important to me at all. During the video students talked about there computers being more expensive than some people make in a year. Also, that students spend time reading and solving problems that has nothing to do with their lives. We are suffocating our students with knowledge that means nothing. Students stay in class and stare at a board, and does the information go into the students brain you have no idea. It also upsets me that students will have thousands of dollars in debt from college. How are they going to pay for school? They don't know, its not fair. Jobs are being lost everyday, to get a job a BA does nothing for you, a masters degree that cost 20,000 dollars  can cost a life of debt. What also upsets me is students spend more time listening to their I pod or on Facebook, meeting people on date websites, and looking into a computer all day. We as people, people as a society are going to forget to talk. Technology is forcing our students to live a quite life isolated from everything that are live around them. That is what upsets me the most. We need to encourage our students to be open have conversation and not look into a computer every day.
On the other hand, technology does allow us to teach in easier way. What inspires me about teaching in the future is truthfully, me teaching. That is what makes me inspired that kids that I am going to influence in the future. I do like that technology can be used in classes. Computers, like our class, using Google to show who we are using pictures.
